Franny Billingsley
Franny Billingsley's Folk Keeper is a wonderful, creepy, selkie story.
(Selkies are magical seals that can take off their skins and become human.)
Dia Calhoun
Dia Calhoun has written the popular YA fantasy novels, Aria of the Sea,
Firegold, and White Midnight.
Shannon Hale
Shannon Hale is the author of Princess Academy, as well as Goose Girl.
Her books have strong girl characters and adventure. Princess Academy
recently won a Newbery Honor.
Robin McKinley
Robin McKinley won the Newbery Award and the Newbery Honor for her fantasy
books The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown. Both these books feature
girls who find the power inside them to save their lands. She also has
written some novels that are retold fairy tales, like Beauty, Rose's Daughter,
and Spindle's End.
Tamora Pierce
Tamora Pierce is the author of many fantasy books. One of her famous series
features a girl knight, Alanna the Lioness. Another features a girl trying
to become a knight, Keladry of Mindelan.
Jane Yolen
Jane Yolen has written many fantasy books, as well as novels that are
retold fairy tales. She has also edited collections of folk and fairy
tales.

The Children's Book Council site provides information about children's
books and children's book publishing.

Smith's Children's Literature Resources
If you're looking for interviews, reviews, and author website links, try
this site. Another great resource for the same kind of information is
Debbi Michiko
Florence's Library.
The Purple Crayon
This site, put together by the editor Harold Underdown, gives both basic
and more advanced advice about the business of publishing children's books.

Society of Children's Book
Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI)
SCBWI is a professional organization for children's book writers and illustrators.
It sponsors conferences, both regional and national, sends out up-to-date
publishing advice to its members, and provides other great services. If
you're in New England, try NESCBWI.
Toni Buzzeo's
Author Visits Resources
Toni Buzzeo is a school library media specialist and a children's book
author. Her site has sample contracts for author visits and other resources.
She also lists information for those interested in virtual
